Description The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office is looking for a Court Peace Officer who will serve as a floater performing a variety of duties as needed. The primary responsibility will be to carry out court ordered warrants necessary to remove alleged incompetents from their residence or hospital and serving legal documents. In addition to this, the Court Peace Officer will perform other Deputy Sheriff duties. This position will be required to serve civil process, recover and seize property/money and carry out evictions per court orders. While performing Deputy Sheriff duties, the Court Peace Officer will be required to use their own personal vehicles and will receive mileage reimbursement.

Examples of Duties - Coordinate and document actions necessary for the removal of alleged incompetents from their homes or hospitals with police, family and institutional personnel.
- Take custody, guard, secure and transport incompetent persons to court and other facilities for hearing and other businesses as directed by probate court.
- Monitor the behavior of individuals during court hearings to assure the safety of judges, other court personnel and the public.
- Receive, process and document proper service of legal papers as prescribed by law, using a personal vehicle, to residents and businesses.
Minor duties
- Recover and seize property or money from County residents and businesses in a designated geographical area, and organize the operations of other agencies assisting in the process.
- Carry out evictions per court order.
- Complete final reports and summaries on all activities and actions taken in recovering or seizing property.
- Conduct formal Sheriff sales on seized property by posting advertisements, accepting oral bids from the public, collecting cash and completing all necessary paperwork.
- Perform such additional duties as needed.
Minimum Qualifications Requires a Class A Peace Officer license by the State of Missouri. A minimum of one year of law enforcement experience is preferred. Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to complete weapon qualification.
Additional Information SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT : A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available.
The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above. The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.
The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.
All applicants conditionally offered a merit position will be required to submit to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Screening will be performed by a reputable clinical laboratory. The cost of screening will be covered by the County.
