Description:
This role involves performing patient care activities and clerical functions under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
The Patient Care Technician supports the clinical operations of the Emergency Department.
Key responsibilities include performing phlebotomy, EKGs, patient transport, hygiene care, vital signs, weights, pulse oximetry, and assisting with procedures.
The technician accurately inputs radiology, laboratory, and EKG orders in the electronic system.
Maintaining departmental organization through filing systems and mail management is essential.
The technician monitors and orders supplies, restocks rooms, and ensures cleanliness in utility areas.
Communication within the department is critical, including answering phones and assisting visitors courteously.
This position requires accurate entry of patient orders, discharges, transfers, and related information.
Keeping patients and families informed about care processes throughout their emergency visit is a key duty.
The technician monitors and promptly reports changes in patient condition to nursing staff.
Safe patient handling and mobility, including the use of transfer devices and fall prevention measures, must be ensured.
Assistance with wound care, splinting, and sterile dressing setup is provided under RN/MD supervision.
Strict adherence to infection prevention and isolation protocols is required.
Proficiency in prioritizing multiple patients and tasks in a fast-paced environment is necessary.
Collaboration with multidisciplinary team members ensures efficient patient flow and continuity of care.
Accurate documentation of patient care and observations in the medical record is mandated.
Equipment maintenance, including cleaning and reporting malfunctions, is the technician's responsibility.
