Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial production and processing systems by performing the following duties. Hiring for this position is contingent on contract award.

Responsibilities:

• Obtains specified electrode and inserts electrode into portable holder or threads consumable electrode wire through portable welding gun.
• Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by Welding Engineer or Welding Technician.
• Starts power supply to produce electric current.
• Strikes (forms) arc which generates heat to melt and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work piece.
• Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle.
• Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions.
• Examines weld for bead size and other specifications.
• Applies filler rod manually to supply weld metal.
• Cleans or degreases weld joint or work piece.
• Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes.
• Prepares broken parts for welding by grooving or scaring surfaces.
• Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter.
• Preheats work piece with hand torch or heating furnace.
• Positions and clamps work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture.
• Other duties may be assigned.
• This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent or ten (10) years pipe welder experience will be considered.
• Minimum three (3) years experience as a certified pipe welder.
• GTAW GMAW FCAW SMAW experience.
• Applicant must pass a pre employment pipe welding test.
• Previous North Slope experience preferred.
• Must bring own basic hand tools to job site. List of required hand tools to be provided by NANA Construction at the time of hire.
• Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy preferred.

The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee must frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit and taste or smell. Steel toed boots required on the job. Travel may require an employee or contractor to pass a TSA security checkpoint. If the employee or contractor does not have valid identification, they will not be able to travel until valid identification is obtained and verified. For this reason all employees and contractors must have valid identification when traveling to and from the location.
