ABOUT THE JOB

We are hiring for Special Education Teachers!! Please see the different types of roles we are hiring for at many of our schools across Jefferson County:

SSN (Significant Support Needs)

  • Students in these programs generally have intellectual disabilities or multiple disabilities and are taught towards extended evidence outcomes.

ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)

  • ASD center programs support students with significant deficits in functional communication, social skills and restrictive interests or repetitive behaviors.

AN (Affective Needs)

  • AN center programs provide programming for students with significant social, emotional, behavioral and mental health needs.

Learning Specialist

  • These are teachers who support any of the students in the building on an IEP, generally students not in a center program. These are sometimes referred to as supporting mild/moderate needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

SUMMARY Develop, implement, and support individualized practices for achieving learning outcomes for students with communication, cognitive, physical, and/or social/behavioral needs, based on the requirements of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEIA). This teacher will utilize evidence-based best practice and rely on frequent progress monitoring for programming adjustments. The Learning Specialist teacher will take a leadership role in collaboratively problem solving interventions for students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES may include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Design and implement specialized instruction in one-on-one, small group and large classroom settings.
  • Work collaboratively to plan and modify curriculum, team teach with general educators and to communicate the abilities and needs of special education students.
  • Develop, implement and review for appropriateness the behavioral plans for designated students.
  • Work in conjunction with a multidisciplinary team to conduct IEP and referral meetings, conferences, and to develop a multidisciplinary approach to the educational enhancement of the student.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with regular educators, school staff, students and parents.
  • Create a safe supportive and understanding environment for disabled students.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Hold valid Colorado teaching license with Special Education Generalist endorsement. If teacher is the teacher of record for a specific content area, they must meet content-area qualification, which could include the appropriate content endorsement, degree in the content area, Colorado State Board of Education-approved content exam, or 36 credit hours as determined by the district. Training emphasis in Learning Disabled/Perceptual Communicative preferred.
