Description
Job Duties:

1. Assist youth in articulating and determining objectives to reach personal goals for recovery.
2. Determine and utilize specific interventions based on individual's recovery/life goals.
3. Assist youth in creating a Wellness Recovery Action Plan.
4. Provide one-on-one and family support, as well as, group meetings as indicated to develop problem solving techniques, social skill building, and identification of natural/community support systems.
5. Provide support and assistance to youth by telephone and face-to-face prior to their enrollment in the SOC program.
6. Assist youth in developing empowerment skills through self-advocacy and support.
7. Maintains clients' confidentiality at all times.
8. Provides information, referral and emotional support to youth enrolled in the SOC services.
9. Familiarize self with all aspects of System of Care (SOC) values, needs, and services, Wraparound Teams, Strengths-Based Planning, Evaluation and incorporate into service provision.
10. Accompany youth to meetings in order to support program participation.
11. Conduct home visits for regular monitoring.

Documentation and Quality Improvement:

12. Document progress youth make toward meeting recovery goals.
13. Document relevant events within specified timelines.
14. Complete and submit service logs as required.

Interpersonal and Leadership Skills:

15. Attend and participate in team meetings to promote program participants use of self-directed recovery tools.
16. Assist non-consumer staff in identifying program environments that are conducive to recovery. Share personal, unique insight into mental illness with non-consumer staff and what makes recovery possible.
17. Serve as a role model and emphasize the value of each individual's recovery experience.
18. Respond to consumers' needs in an appropriate and timely manner.
19. Demonstrate appropriate interactions with coworkers that promote a pleasant work environment.
20. Develop and share recovery-orientated material with other Certified Peer Specialists.

Support Duties:

21. Complete additional job duties as assigned by supervisor.
22. Participate in interagency collaboration for the provision of services.
23. Advocate for effective recovery based services.
24. Maintain a working knowledge of current trends and developments in the mental health field.

Key Responsibilities
Current DMH Peer Support Specialist certification or ability to obtain.
Requires excellent time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrate a minimum of (6) months in self-directed recovery.
Current or former consumer or first degree family member of an individual who has received treatment for and self-identifies as a consumer or former mental health consumer.
Completion of required training in compliance with DMH standards.
Requires satisfactory completion of CPR prior to reporting to the work site.
Requires satisfactory completion of CPI within 30 days of employment.
Requires valid driver's license and current auto-liability insurance.
Requires ability to transport clients in private vehicle with necessary.
Previous experience in a mental health setting is strongly preferred.
Previous college educational experience preferred.
Previous paid or volunteer experience preferred.
Ability to think independently
Visual and auditory acuity sufficient to evaluate youth/staff needs preferred.
Fine motor skills for legible and accurate writing of reports, scheduling, daily correspondence and presentations preferred.
Efficient use of time management by keeping thoughts free of obstruction preferred.

Minimum Education
HS

Minimum Requirements
High school diploma or GED

Licensure/Certification
Current DMH Peer Support Specialist certification or ability to obtain.
