At Discourse Power, we believe in the transformative power of speech and debate. At Discourse Power, student development is a priority. Therefore, our coaches emphasize building confidence and skills gradually through structured curriculum, practice and supportive feedback. Through our speech and debate programs, we aim to cultivate critical thinking, effective communication, and a passion for learning. Discourse Power completed one year of operations in Summer 2025. We are now expanding our programs and hiring new coaches (part-time). Our programs are typically 14-week programs, once a week in-person class, with extra practice sessions through Zoom.
Position: Part-Time Speech (Public Speaking) Coach/Instructor, Mountain House, CA
Original Oratory, Impromptu, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Informative Speaking. Classes take place once a week on either weekday evenings or weekends. Flexibility in building schedules. Great opportunity to make a difference in the lives of youth. This Public Speaking program will be targeted towards grades 6 to 12.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Develop lesson plans. Self-Starter, solid understanding of competitive speech events. The coach should have a strong understanding of how to craft a persuasive, well-researched, and engaging message for a specific audience. This includes skills in rhetoric, argumentation, storytelling, and the ability to help students choose relevant and impactful topics. Tournaments planning and extra practice planning. Possess strong delivery skills, and the ability to guide students in areas like voice projection and modulation, body language, and stagecraft. Qualification/Experience:
With a Bachelor’s degree or in progress toward obtaining one, and 3-4 years of coaching or teaching experience, you’re ready to take the next step in your career. High School or Middle School English teachers are welcome to apply. Strong interpersonal and presentation skills along with verbal and written communication skills are a key part of this role. College students with three years experience in high school speech events can also apply for this role. Fall Classes Start Date: September 15th.
Salary: Depending upon the experience.
