The Department of Animal Science is looking for a dependable and reliable person to manage their Nutrition Laboratory that provides a broad range of support for department of animal sciences nutrition research, teaching, and Extension programs. The Nutrition Laboratory manager provides leadership to all laboratory operations and activities associated with the departmental Nutrition Laboratory in conjunction and coordination with the faculty supervisor. Expectations include coordination of supervising and training laboratory personnel; maintenance of laboratory equipment and chemical/supply inventory; conducting, developing and overseeing all sample handling and analytical methods conducted in the laboratory; and coordinating data handling and summarization. Laboratory analyses conducted in the laboratory include (but are not limited to): chromatography, spectrophotometry, proximate analysis, immunoblotting and immunohistochemistry, rt-qPCR, tissue/cell respirometry, and gas analyses. The person will also be expected to lead efforts in analytical procedure development of new or alternative assays. The person in this position will be expected to work as a member of a team with other research staff, students, and faculty.


Salary:
$48,000-$55,000+ depending on experience

Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.


Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. degree in Animal Science, Biochemistry, Food Science, Molecular Biology or related field
Demonstrated experience with relevant analytical laboratory techniques
Ability and desire to learn, develop, and troubleshoot analytical methods
Experience with data handling and summarization using appropriate software
Desire and ability in managing personnel
Ability to work effectively as part of a team
Experience in writing research reports, manuscripts, abstracts, and/or grant proposals
Good written and oral communication skills


Preferred Qualifications:

M.S. or PhD in Animal Science, Biochemistry, Food Science, Molecular Biology or related field
Experience with managing personnel
Experience with data analysis
Experience with handling and care of large animals
Experience with omics and bioinformatics and chromatography/mass spectrometry analyses, and with grant and manuscript writing
