Title: Grounds Maintenance Laborer

Supervisor: Grounds Maintenance Supervisor

Department: Operations

FLSA Status: Hourly Non-Exempt

Summary/Objective

The Grounds Maintenance Laborer is responsible for performing a variety of work tasks in order to complete grounds maintenance tasks and projects. The position also requires employees to operate a variety of tools and equipment to carry out specified job tasks.

Essential Functions

• Cut grass, trim edges, clean up refuse, blow trimmings, fertilize and water turf areas and perform other landscaping duties as directed by the management team.

• Move and install soil, mulch and plant material to assist in with the construction of landscape gardens and related areas.

• Spray and dust areas to control insects and/or weeds

• Operate power equipment including but not limited to, lawn tractors, lawn mowers, string trimmers, blowers, hedge trimmers, pruning saws, sod cutters and chain saws

• Conduct daily inspections and maintenance on vehicles, tools, and equipment

• Must always wear appropriate personal protective equipment

• Perform other reasonably related duties as may be assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner

• Effective communication skills-must be able to carry out verbal instructions, read labels and signs

• Knowledge of specific materials, methods, tools and equipment required to complete various landscape/construction practices

• Ability to work both independently with little supervision, and as part of a team

• Ability to walk, stand, crouch for long periods of time and carry out strenuous physical tasks

• Preference will be given to candidates with a valid driver's license and driving record

Physical Demands

• Ability to work with hand tools, power tools, small engine equipment, and materials

• Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. or more repeatedly through an entire work shift

• Requires good manual dexterity

• Excellent stamina is required

• Work near heavy equipment and other vehicles on a regular basis

• Work outside in various conditions including heat and humidity, rain, dust, noise, and cold

• Flexible working hours including occasional

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

• Related experience preferred.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and or as required to deliver the objectives.
