The Role

Program Dates: May 29 August 7, 2026.

Location: This position is fully remote / work from home in the continental US. Work Authorization: US Work Authorization required for this role. Program eligibility is contingent on the candidate's commitment to the entire 10-week program. No exceptions will be made.

As a Data Enablement Intern, you'll support the implementation of Lumen's AI governance strategy in alignment with the NIST AI Risk Management Framework (AI RMF). You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate AI systems, refine governance policies, and translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into actionable data practices.

The Main Responsibilities
  • Assist in evaluating AI systems for fairness, transparency, and accountability
  • Support the drafting and refinement of AI governance policies, standards, and procedures
  • Translate legislative and regulatory requirements into operational guidelines
  • Collaborate with data privacy and security teams to ensure compliance with internal and external standards
  • Contribute to the implementation of AI governance strategies aligned with NIST AI RMF
  • Participate in cross-functional discussions to promote responsible data practices across the organization
What We Look For in a Candidate

Required qualifications:

  • Enrolled at a 4-year accredited college or university, rising senior level education status at the start of the internship.
  • Graduating August 2026 May 2028
  • Preferred fields include but not limited to: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Public Policy, Data Science, Law, Ethics, or a related field

Proficiency and understanding of:

  • Strong interest in AI ethics, governance, and regulatory frameworks
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, MLOps, or LLMOps is a plus
  • Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and eager to learn

Compensation: Internship compensation ranges depend on each individual's level of education, geographic location, and experience/qualifications aligned to the role.

Hourly Based Pay Range: Min: $31/hour Max: $46/hour
