Homeless Services Diversion Worker

Utah Community Action is seeking a compassionate individual for our full-time Homeless Services Diversion Worker position. We support staff at all Homeless Shelters in Salt Lake County, so your location and scheduled shift will vary based on the community's needs. The standard work schedule consists of four 10-hour days per week, including at least one weekend day.

The wage is $19.91/hour.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A DIVERSION WORKER

Diversion Workers will assess clients for Diversion services, working to prevent homelessness for people seeking shelter by identifying immediate alternate housing arrangements and, if necessary, connecting them with services and financial assistance to help them return to permanent housing. Diversion Workers may also assess clients through the DWS TANF eligibility process in the DWS TEVS database to assist them in receiving TANF services.

WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU

  • Ability to be empathetic to individuals experiencing homelessness regardless of their ethnic background, gender, or other demographic qualities
  • Strong knowledge of data entry and explaining processes to clients
  • Willingness to work in a team environment to assist other staff where needed
  • Sensitivity to the needs of families from various economic and ethnic backgrounds
  • Ability to relate to and work with low income people
  • Maturity of judgment to handle emergency situations
  • Knowledge of community resources, agencies, and referral procedures
  • Must have the ability to work with community professionals
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of various word processing and spreadsheet software
  • Ability to navigate databases and complete entries into the database
  • Knowledge of the internet and email
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent use of English, both spoken and written
