Job Description

As an AmeriCorps Promise Fellow with Minnesota Alliance With Youth, you will join a statewide cohort of Promise Fellows supporting 6th-12th grade students. Much more than a tutor, AmeriCorps Promise Fellows use the proven Promise Fellow Model for youth support to provide support for students who are struggling in school. Promise Fellows support students in the areas of: Attendance : Provide attendance coaching, call home if students miss class, and increase student attendance by creating a caring adult relationship. Engagement : Provide avenues for increased youth engagement in school and the broader community by coordinating programs like lunchtime mentoring, book clubs, promoting youth leadership development, and connecting youth with civic opportunities. Course Performance : Help students set academic goals and provide before, in, and after school educational support for individuals and small groups as students work towards their goals. Promise Fellows foster students’ unique talents, honor their voices, and help them prepare for graduation and beyond. Throughout your term of service, you will have the chance to develop and exercise lifelong leadership skills that will make you a powerful force for good. AmeriCorps Eligibility Requirements Must be 18 years of age or older by the time of program start date Must have at least a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent educational qualification Must be either a U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or Lawful Permanent Resident of the United States Must not have served four or more prior terms of service AmeriCorps State and National Must be able to pass National Service Criminal Service History Background check (including National Sex Offender Registry, State of service and State of residence, and FBI checks) - eligibility requirements listed here You Earn AmeriCorps Living Stipend (pre-tax): Full-time (40hrs/week) members receive $1,236 twice per month ($1,066.67 30hrs/week, $800.00 for 25hrs/week) AmeriCorps Education Award: $3697.50 Education Award upon successful completion of service. This award can be used toward federally qualifying student loans (federal student financial aid loans, not including ParentPlus loans) or future qualified post-secondary education.
