GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Police Officer is responsible for enforcing the law and protecting the community of Rock Valley.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• None.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensure the safety and security of the public by responding to emergencies, providing assistance to victims, and reducing or preventing involvement in crime.
• Enforce laws and regulations within the City of Rock Valley.
• Build relationships with the community while helping to contribute to the health and safety of vulnerable populations.
• Create community awareness by using crime prevention methods or intervention initiatives.
• Conduct investigations by interviewing suspects, witnesses, and collecting evidence at crime scenes.
• Participate in and testify at court hearings when required.
• Process incident reports with accurate detail and information.
• Demonstrate pride in the job and place of employment.
• Represent the City of Rock Valley and Rock Valley Police Department at all times in a professional manner.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Experience is preferred, but not required.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
• Must reside in Rock Valley, Iowa.
• Open to working various shifts such as evenings, weekends, nights, and holidays.
• Ability to stay calm in stressful or high-risk situations.
• Ability to deescalate situations and prevent harm from occurring.
• Skilled at solving problems and using critical thinking.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Capability and desire to work in a collaborative manner with a wide range of people.
• Strong negotiation and adjudicating skills.
• Developed analysis skills for researching and investigating.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to operate foot pedal (occasionally) with a force up to 40 lbs.
• Must be able to lift (rarely) 55 lbs. from ground to a preferred height to move person.
• Must be able to lift and carry 15 lbs. at preferred height a distance of 75 feet.
• Must be able to pull (rarely) with a force of 110 lbs. at a height of 22”.
• Must be able to push/pull (rarely) with a force of 30 lbs. at a height of 83” to unlock door.
• Must be able to push (rarely) with a force of 110 lbs. to provide chest compressions at a height of 0” for 5 minutes at a rate of 60 compression/minute.
• Must be able to run up to 75’ to respond to emergencies.
• Must be able to climb stairs 12 steps to respond to emergency.
• Must be able to stand for 30 minutes or greater to complete community education.
• Must comply with ILEA (Iowa Law Enforcement Academy) standards upon hiring.
