Fiber Splicer (Eldridge, IA)

Central Broadband is looking to hire an experienced Fiber Splicer. Eldridge, Iowa is just 10 minutes north of the Quad-Cities.

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of duties with a primary focus on splicing fiber optic cable.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Splices and tests copper and fiber optic cable.
• Assists where necessary with contractors working near buried facilities.
• Proficient in using fusion splicers and test equipment for troubleshooting purposes.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as maps, staking sheets, and operating and maintenance instruction manuals.
• Ability to pay close attention to detail, and to work independently and make sound technical decisions using information at hand.
• Completes administrative paperwork and forms on a timely basis as directed.
• Ability to continuously read, write, analyze, and speak with clarity as needed.
• Displays a positive, professional appearance and work attitude.
• Maintains a clean and efficient work area and company vehicle.
• Travel will be required with occasional overnight stays.
• Use appropriate tools and proper hardware to meet all applicable codes and safety requirements.
• Coordinates and communicates closely with other departments within the Company in a professional manner.
• Builds and works in complex splice closures and/or cabinets.
• Provides detailed and accurate verifications of fiber optic patch panels and junction splicing in pedestals or vaults.
• Performs all other related duties assigned by Management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION

• High School Diploma or equivalent – required

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal - required

• Fast learner and self-starter - required
• PC and smartphone application knowledge (Google, Microsoft, Adobe, etc.) – required

• Eligible to work in USA – required

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Performs work duties both inside customer premises and outdoors often in harsh environments. Travel is required to customer locations; must be able to drive company vehicle and maintain a valid state driver’s license. Must be able to push, pull, bend, stoop, climb and reach. Must be available to work occasional off hours and participate in on-call rotation. Must have good hearing and ability to identify and distinguish colors. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, climb stairs, ladder and at times work in tight spaces. Pass drug testing. Perform other physical duties as required.
