Position Summary:

The Event Management Intern will learn to coordinate and manage events held at the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center by working hand in hand with the Events Team on advance planning calls, placing orders with vendors, and running banquet and luncheons. In addition, the intern will learn how the event day responsibilities such as set-up/breakdowns, client management, and part time staff are deployed. The internship will consist of approximately 24 hours a week with days and times varying depending on the event schedule.

This role will pay an hourly wage of $14.75.

About the Venue:

The Donald L. Tucker Civic Center features a 12,500-seat arena, 34 luxury suites, 476 club seats, over 54,000 sq. ft. of meeting and exhibition space and an arena view restaurant, the Spotlight Grille. The arena is home to Florida State Mens and Womens basketball and is known for its electric atmosphere and fierce home court advantage. Not only a music and sports venue, the arena also is frequently used for trade shows, large catered functions, receptions, religious services, and classes. Responsibilities:

Learn what it takes for Event Managers to coordinate various types of events, including but not limited to, meetings, banquets, trade shows, FSU basketball, concerts, and graduations.
Partner with management to understand the steps in the completion of special projects as assigned by management.
Assist with the Inventory of all department Supplies: Staff Shirts, Radios, wristbands, etc.
Attend departmental and building meetings as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must be a college junior, senior or graduate student.
Recommended for Sport Management, Business, Hospitality Majors or related fields.
3.0 GPA or higher, preferred.

Campus Leadership experience is a plus.
Financial compensation is available, but housing and transportation are the responsibility of the intern.
Availability to work 24 hours a week, including evenings and weekends.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing is required.
Ability to work a flexible schedule.
Must possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to function and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Must demonstrate a positive, professional and customer-focused attitude.
Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
