Job Description
Patient Care Tech
Provides direct or indirect patient care in accordance with treatment plans as determined/delegated by a licensed nurse or practitioner. Assists with tasks necessary for the general organization of the ED department, being flexible meeting patient and/or unit needs.
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct patient care and indirect activities to facilitate smooth running ED
- Provide safe and competent care of patients, to include ambulation, transferring or lifting of patients
- Take patient vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure and pain level
- Document vital signs and EKG information in the EMR
- Assist with the admission, discharge and transfer of patients within the hospital
- Order/rotate stock in ED ensuring products are not overstocked or expired; restock ER rooms
- Provide CPR during emergency "code" situations
- Perform EKG's on ED patients as ordered by practitioner
- Perform blood collection procedures by venipuncture
Required Qualifications:
- BLS required
- Safe Patient Handling training (can be obtained on the job required within one month of hire)
- Able to sit and work at a computer keyboard.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
- Occasional stooping, bending, reaching, lifting and pushing up to 50 pounds.
- Close visual acuity, read charts, analyze and prepare data, transcribing, viewing a computer screen, dials, equipment settings, literature and other printed or handwritten materials.
- Work with equipment and manipulate equipment settings, computer keyboard, etc.
- OSHA Category I: High risk of exposure to blood/body fluids in the day to day job duties.
- Regular and on-time attendance.
- Hours regularly exceed 37.5 hours per week.
- ED environments
- Individual may be required to work non-standard shifts as needed (weekend, evenings, swing shift, or some combination).
