Cattle and Farm Hand 

 

Key Job duties - Cattle and feedlot

  • Load and operate the feed truck each day

  • Assist in processing, sorting, and moving cattle in the feedlot

  • Build, maintain, and repair fence and water systems in the feedlot or pasture

  • Pen maintenance tasks such as scraping, loading, and spreading feedlot manure

  • Spot-spraying weeds in the pasture

  • Routine maintenance and repair of equipment

 

Key Job duties - Farm

  • Operate tractors to conduct field operations such as tillage, fertilizing, planting, and spraying

  • Operate haying equipment such as the rotary mower, chopper, or bale spear

  • Operate harvest equipment such as the combine or grain cart

  • Operate dump trucks and semi-trucks for hauling grain

  • Manage daily irrigation with gated pipe

  • Manage center pivot irrigation systems

  • Routine maintenance and repair of equipment

 

Work schedule

  • Monday-Friday 7AM-5PM - 1 hour lunch break

  • Saturday 7AM-9AM - during spring field work and harvest full Saturdays may be required.

  • Sunday 6:30AM-8:30AM - no work outside daily livestock chores is expected to be done on Sundays - outside of the busy seasons employees will typically rotate Sundays off

  • The nature of the livestock and farming business often results in working hours outside of a typical schedule - either shorter or longer days.

  • Effort will be made to be flexible for an employee participating in their own or family activities

 

Preferred skills and experience

  • Experience with cattle and knowledge of BQA principles

  • Experience with late model John Deere tractors, equipment, and technology

  • Experience with equipment such as a payloader, skid steer loader, or feed truck

  • Experience driving heavy trucks including semi-trucks and trailers

  • Basic knowledge of center-pivot irrigation systems - specifically Valley brand pivots

  • Mechanical and/or construction skills including welding

  • Capability of lifting a 50 lb load

  • Basic computer skills for record keeping and operation of ag technology systems

 

Compensation

  • Compensation determined by level of skills and experience

  • Salaried position based on a 50 hr work week

  • Health insurance stipend paid directly to employee

  • Beef provided approximately twice a year
