Our client is a leading Fine Arts Services firm with the goal of providing excellence and dependability in customer service. The firm works with galleries, museums, designers, and private collectors throughout the fine art and design industry. They seek talented, dedicated individuals to train and work as Art Handlers for their Bozeman, MT office.
Art Handlers are the foundation of fine art logistics. Artwork must be managed in a professional and careful manner so it arrives to each location undamaged. An Art Handler is responsible for the safe and secure handling and transfer of artwork. As a part of the team, you will be involved in all aspects of art handling and transfer: receiving, condition reporting, preparation, packing, transporting, deinstallation, installation, and warehousing clients’ artwork. The successful candidate understands that the safety and security of artworks and team members is vital to both the individual and company success.
As an Art Handler, you must have and maintain a clean driving record and are required to drive company vehicles. You must be able to engage with clients and team members in a courteous and professional manner at all times. Since every installation is unique and many art pieces can vary in size, shape, and weight, you must also have strong problem-solving skills. A background in construction and/or a strong mechanical aptitude is highly preferred.
These positions are full-time and offer a competitive hourly wage based upon experience.
Key responsibilities:
Observe and perform operational and personnel policies while conducting company business.
Maintain the firm’s high expectations of professionalism and exemplary customer service.
Accurately and legibly complete required paperwork such as work orders, delivery tickets, bill of ladings, condition reports, and other required documents.
Must have the ability to speak and write clearly and professionally and have legible handwriting.
Maintain an organized, clean tool kit.
Ensure all tools, materials, tool bags, and equipment are stocked for each day’s work. Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and respectful work environment in the vehicles, office, warehouse, and jobsites.
Maintain and stock company tool bags and service trucks, to be always ready for dispatch.
Ensure all job sites are cleaned at the end of the job and all company tools are collected and organized in company truck.
Safe execution of art handling techniques and practices
Inspect all artwork prior to handling to ensure proper care and procedures are followed when handling various mediums.
Adhere to proprietary agreements such as confidentiality, non-disclosure, privacy, and other employment provisions to maintain the high level of client security.
Complete packaging of artwork for transportation and warehousing.
Safely move a variety of artwork: sculptures, paintings, mirrors, photographs, to and from vehicles, docks, warehouses, homes, and buildings.
Install and uninstall artwork in both residential and commercial settings.
Use appropriate tools and hanging systems to professionally install artwork.
Complete condition reporting and other documentation as required.
Demonstrate understanding and use of both paper and electronic documentation.
Required Qualifications:
Ability to communicate effectively, clearly, and professionally with clients, team members, office manager, scheduler, and warehouse manager in a manner to efficiently complete jobs
Ability to adapt to changing assignments, working conditions, and procedures
Ability to focus on the good of the team rather than individual accomplishments
Strong work ethic and pride in work
Ability to work autonomously and as a team member
Comfortable working on ladders and scaffolding
High school diploma required/GED
Ability to address workplace stress in a calm and controlled manner
Provide friendly, superior, professional service to all clients – in communication and work performed
Ability to pass a background check
Current driver’s license and clean driving record - must be maintained throughout employment
Proficiency with basic hand and power tools
Ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds
Drive box vans and pulling trailers
Preferred Experiences or qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in art related field
Experience in handling artwork in museum, gallery, artist studio, or private collection or similar environment
Familiarity with standard museum practices, terminology, and art history
Forklift certification
Awareness and understanding of residential and commercial building techniques
Installation experience of a wide range of artwork types in different environments
